And, the importance of design in driving “application” of learning in the work environment

Changing how value of learning intervention is measured by learning and the business.

What it means to be an effective business partner. Performance consulting with a focus on organizational effectiveness.

Modality is not a factor in the performance of learning solutions.

Performance: The degree to which the learning solution can be applied in the workplace.

The study does not tackle non-traditional learning solutions such as Communities of Practice but it goes a long way in outlining the essential linkage between business objectives and learning interventions. If learning leaders want to be taken seriously they need to start managing learning like a business.

Instructional Gaming Technologies & Guided Learning

Having just begun my doctoral journey I've been tasked with learning more about an HCI technology of interest. I'm really interested in the opportunity to approach learning through gaming, in an overt way, someone comes because the game is fun and challenging learning is secondary but happens through an effective instructional design process. A good beginning example is provided in the approach Cisco's taken to teaching children about technoloy (think target audience ages 6 - 11yrs) children love this game.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/edu/peterpacket2/deliverables/main.htm

Do you have any really good examples of instructional gaming? What knowledge transfer are you looking for and how did you incorporate that into the gaming process?

I look forward to exploring this topic.

Michelle
